The
conscientious golden retriever breeder is faced with a daunting task
when choosing a stud dog for their bitch. The breed has a huge gene
pool with dogs of many styles, pedigrees and potentials to pick from.
There are also faults lurking in every pedigree, some easy to forgive
and some devastating. The challenge is to find a stud dog who compliments
the style and pedigree of the bitch, upholds the desired temperament
and drive of the breed, and whose genetic influence does not perpetuate
flaws we wish to eliminate in our lines.
For
these reasons I feel that Fisher can be a valuable resource for the
right person’s breeding program. I also feel that it is my prerogative
to screen bitches very carefully and develop a personal – and professional – relationship
between bitch owners and myself. This gives me peace of mind that any
puppies produced by Fisher are going to be physically and mentally
healthy, excellent representatives of their breed, well taken care
of by the breeder, placed in appropriate homes, and that they will
possess the potential for performance in whatever arena their owners
may choose to pursue.
I
will expect the following of any bitch bred to Fisher:
1. Possess the proper health clearances for hips, elbows, heart and
eyes, verifiable on the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals website database.
Exceptions may be made in the case of injuries obscuring conclusive
diagnoses (such as eye or elbow injuries).
2. Pedigree documented on k9data.com or official AKC pedigree.
3. A copy of the puppy (buyer) contract from the breeder.
4. Bitch must be healthy both physically and temperamentally, not suffering
from seizures or perpetual allergies. Temperament must be stable and
non-aggressive in keeping with the breed standard, and should possess
adequate retrieving desire.
Owners of suitable
bitches are more than welcome to contact me to discuss breeding plans
and Fisher’s strengths
and weaknesses. I also invite you to meet Fisher at a show or in
our home.
I will gladly supply hard-copy stud packets to interested parties. Fresh chilled and frozen semen available.
Breeding inquiries for Fisher may be directed to Anney Doucette (Gainesville,
Florida) at JPGRigold@aol.com.
